Date Nights

We didn’t start our regimen of date nights during our relationship until David’s 2nd visit to Singapore which was about more than 8 months into our relationship. Before we started it, we find it usually associated with the younger couples and so thought for couples of our age, our usual outings were enough. However, we were wrong!

After trying out our very first date night and a continued series of that whenever David is in Singapore or when Nora is in Busan, we realised, date nights have this amazing effect of reigniting the romance between us just like our very first date! It also seems to have a special healthy positive emotional impact for us as well as the ability to smoothen any friction we had with each other during the week and make us feel young again! We sure will want to continue with this practice of date nights, even when we reach our golden years! Date nights are indeed wonderful for couples of all ages.

There are many different ways of date nights. As for us, we love to start with food and drinks and followed by a loving, relaxing stroll.

How about you?

Do share with us how you carry out your date nights by leaving us a note.

Friday 23 August, 2019 – Dallas @ Boat Quay, Singapore

Our very first continued date night. We were very lucky to be given a table very near the waterfront that made it even more romantic. Food and service were excellent! We sure want to be here again! Amidst an area where iconic landmarks of Fullerton Hotel, Sir Stamford Raffles statue, Cavenagh Bridge and other colnial buikdings, we had a lovely relaxing walk here too.

Friday 29 November, 2019 – Dellago @ Geumjeong-Gu, Busan, South Korea

This Italian restaurant is one of our favourite restaurants in Busan. We’ve been here a couple of times since Nora’s first visit to Busan. The ambience is classy, cosy and the food is such of high quality that the chefs and service staff really deserve commendation. Price-value ratio here is great too. On a street in a university town, this area has many cafes, restaurants and much alive with energy eapecially during the weekends from Fridays. We had a nice time sttolling here, soaking the energy of the nightlife here in this university town.

Friday 31 January, 2020 – Ali’s Grill @ Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Date nights definitely do not need to be at expensive restaurants. As we love to start it with food and drinks, however, we are just as happy trying out a good quality, value for money western grill dishes in this Marina Bay Sands basement food court. This stall really has the best, crispy western grill dishes served in generous portions at amazingly reasonable price! ( Considering this is in the pricey Marina Bay Sands ) We had a wonderful strolling around this area too along the MBS waterfront and just behind it lies the open garden of Gardens by the Bay that was very romantic and serene for us.

Friday 07 February, 2020 – Urban Bites Lebanese Cuisine @ Telok Ayer Street, Singapore

We love trying out exotic food too! Here, nestled among a row of restaurants and bars is this gem. Even though simple and small as a venue but it didn’t fall short of being cosy and serves very tasty Lebanese variety. We even managed to try their sweets afterwards, which true to the word ‘sweets’, we found them too sweet for our tooth. Being an area of rejuvenated shophouses turned into bars and restaurants, strolling around this area somehow made us feel so young! It was interesting strolling atound this area as we observed how the different shophouses were turned into the various types of restaurants and bars by their owners.

Friday 14 February, 2020 – Grub @ AMK/Bishan Park, Singapore

Our date night this day coincided with Valentine’s Day. It was quite challenging getting a reservation as most evening slots were fully booked at quite a number of restaurants in our choice list. As usual David always manages to find a nice place for us and fortunately this gem can be found right there in Nora’s ‘backyard’! So we decided why go so far when we haven’t discovered this place which is situated in beautiful park in a local neighbourhood! And wow! We were not disappointed at all! This nestled in a beautiful green park with interesting animals like squirrels, roosters, colourful birds etc where we strolled leisurely. It was just blissful and so romantic!

Friday 21 February, 2020 – Margarita Mexican Cuisine @ Dempsey Hill, Singapore

Another exotic food adventure for us this date night. Though the ambience was romantic and we were lucky again to be given a table at a nice spot outdoor, we found the portion was quite small for the price. The quality was also so-so for us. But then this area is well known for its pricey and exclusive restaurants. Still worth the experience and we will definitely want to try the other restaurants in this area too in future. Another nicely rejuvenated area rich in history, the buildings here used to be barracks for the British troops but now turned into a thriving retail and entertainment hub full of exclusive restaurants. Strolling here for us after our meal was delightful and eye opening as we discover how the baracks had been beautifully and purposefully turned into this nice enclave of exquisite entertaiment and restaurants area.

Friday 04 February, 2022 – Miznon @ Stanley Street, Singapore

A rare Israeli restaurant that we discovered in Singapore and decided to try as part of our international food discovery in Singapore. Amidst bars and restaurants in Stanley Street, it served Israeli authentic menu. However, we found it somewhat overpriced for a casual bar like atmosphere and decor as well as the kind of menu variety that were offered. Nevertheless, it was an experience and we managed to also have a walk around the park in the vicinity. As their menu was quite limited, we had to hop over to Swensens for an ice cream desert elsewhere on our way back home.

Friday 11 February, 2022 – Ichikokudo Hokaido Ramen @ Suntec City, Singapore

A very simple but yet cosy and satisfying Japanese ramen night. The broth was thick and tasty. We were however, not lucky enough to get the Japanese floor table. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the food and the service was good. Walking around the Suntec City mall became an indoor experience compared to our usual outdoor walks after our date night meals.
